Artist Biography

Jacquie Castle

Born 1968

Jacquie Castle is a distinguished artist, rated among the top five wildlife artists in South Africa in 1999. Born in Zimbabwe in 1968, she spent much of her time as a child in remote wildlife areas in East Africa and Southern Africa. On leaving school, Jacquie stayed in Northern Botswana with her parents, where her passion for the spirit of Africa was kindled by the thousands of elephant roaming the Chobe floodplains and Linyanti. She was increasingly drawn in to trying to capture the splendour of these magnificent animals, both through photography and pencil drawings.

Jacquie continues to focus on wildlife studies, drawing in pencil in exceptional detail, striving to capture the spirit of stunning wilderness settings which epitomise an Africa that defies categorisation with its simultaneous harshness and enchantment, encompassing a romantic tradition with her true love of the wild.

In association with Berkeley Editions, Jacquie Castle has published the finely tailored and hand crafted Out of Africa series in a signed edition of 120.

Jacquie is exhibiting her Out of Africa Collection at Jamala Wildlife Lodge, Canberra. In a world of adventure, excitement, and luxury, Jamala gives you a once-in-a-lifetime experience to integrate with endangered wildlife species. Jacquie is working on a miniature of Jura, a 3 year old male cheetah at Jamala to capture this.

Jacquie’s miniature black and white pencil drawings, portray an exquisite timelessness, capturing the rare beauty of this nature in the wild. Her inspiration for her Out of Africa Collection was taken from her safari in the remote area of Chobe, Botswana, in 2013.

Jacquie has exhibited at Everard Read Gallery, Johannesburg, in the International Wildlife Exhibitions in the 90’s. In 2016, her Out of Africa Collection have been hung at KangaNews, Sydney.

Jacquie’s paintings have been purchased by institutional collectors such as First National Bank, Investec, and Barlow Rand, as well as private art collectors. Her graphic design work has also been featured in international advertising campaigns.
